In the same week that has witnessed the installation of Archbishop Timothy Dolan in New York and the covering up of Catholic symbols in Georgetown, momentous events have also been taking place across the pond in Africa.
According to All Africa, St. Mary’s University of Juba was inaugurated in southern Sudan, a region that has been torn apart in recent decades by famine and civil war. In the belief that ignorance is more difficult to eradicate than poverty, the minister of education in Sudan as well as the Archbishop of Juba have both come forward to support this new venture.
According to the Archbishop, it is his hope that this university will become one of the first of its kind in Africa.
Our Lady of the Angels, pray for us!
