Pope Benedict XVI has confirmed his appointment of Thomas Dolan as the new Archishop of New York. According to the New York Times, Archbishop Dolan is a conservative after the Pope’s own heart and a man who is greatly needed in that sprawling archdiocese. Dolan is also a capable administrator and fundraiser as well as a man deeply versed in church history and theology.
The Archdiocese of New York has been blessed with numerous pastors over the years including Francis Cardinal Spellman. Although it has been experiencing many troubles of late, I do not doubt that Archbishop Dolan will do everything in his power to make things right. Due to his love of his sheep, it seems to me that Catholic New Yorkers could not have asked for a better pastor.
