Our Lady of Walsingham

Our Lady of Walsingham

I first heard this setting of the Ave Maria almost ten years ago at a choir festival in Bozeman, MT. I was almost instantly transfixed by its beauty and the underpinnings of its polyphony.

Years later, I found out that the composer was a sixteenth century Catholic named Thomas Parsons who was martyred during the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

The recording is by the Cambridge Singers and conducted by John Rutter. Enjoy!

Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us!

St. Thomas More, pray for us!
